The Secret Garden Working Studio & Gallery can be found at 4598 Marine Drive ~ or for us locals, it's on the corner, 2nd house to the left of Costa Del Sol and up the garden stairs. The ground floor of this incredible house has been transformed into a working artist’s studio, gallery, and intimate event space, with an open kitchen full of dye pots and tea, a long table perfect for sewing or drafting on, a nook for 1:1 sessions, 12 seats with room for more, heaps of natural light, a claw foot tub, bathroom and garden all on the main drag of tourist-ville and restaurant row.
For artisans also creating video and photo content for promotional use, you couldn’t ask for a more aesthetically pleasing space to count on. Spinning wheels, drop spindles, knitting needles, crochet hooks, sewing machine, serger, scissors, even a floor loom and painting easels are on hand to support our daily working artisan/shop minder and are available for inclusion in space rentals. The tea cupboard is full and periodic baked goods available. |
Suzanne Glick is the mastermind and head mistress of this venture.
She is a skilled and varied polymath who has worked with textiles since she was 9 years old, is a certified Waldorf teacher, handwork teacher, creatrix of learning programs for children, and holder of women’s magic maker circles. As a natural modern nomad, she has spent many years internationally bringing her skills to the people, building off grid living collectives, and fostering communities of down-to-earth renegades through traditional skills and heritage crafts. Her talents are actually too many to list. She’s the gal to wrangle the neighbour’s sheep for shearing, fix the brakes on a camperized bus, bind your handmade paper into books, re-create your favourite outfit in a fabric you’d prefer, plan a new start up school, teach you to spin wool straight off a rabbit and how to cure a sick chicken, all while telling stories of her travels and probably entertaining your kid with a puppet. |
Juliette Jarvis is the digital maven and fellow creatrix holding the vision of this venture.
She too is multifaceted; just as likely to drop insights from working as a neurofeedback technician into the conversation as writing a best selling book, or unraveling a family curse. After spending many years as a sacred living teacher, facilitator for community ceremonies, and writer of returning reverence to our lives, much of her focus now is on bringing other realm healing work into tangible form through hand woven ritual wear and ceremonial ceramics. If you need a shawl to help retrieve a lost soul part or desire your cards read about a sticky situation, this is who you call on. |
